I'm devastated. I'm still working on (OK, futzing with) the script I began in a Beat Sheet Workshop with Blake about a year ago. After the class, I got out a first draft, then needed to work on it, then life intervened, yadda yadda yadda...so bottom line, a year later and it's gathering dust. But if not now, WHEN???
I loved Blake before I ever met him; after the workshop, even more. Anyone who has met him will know exactly what I am talking about. I am a STC Kool-Aid drinker and recommend it to every writer & movie lover I meet. I just sent it to a new screenwriter friend for her birthday last week.
Enough futzing. I am finishing and SELLING this %$## script in Blake's honor, whatever it takes. Hope you guys will help! I'm ashamed that after being a member here for years I find that this is my first post. It took something like this for me to reach out to my fellow cats.
I share the grief, loss and fond memories of everyone here.
Lisa

| Lisa, kudos for your perserverance. Keep writing, keep perfecting. We're here to help, but I happen to know there are awesome screenwriters in San Diego. One of the best things you can do for yourself, others, and to honor Blake is form a writing group.

Just joined this site moments ago. Want to pass along much-belated prayers to the Snyder Family.
I picked-up Save the Cat! about a year ago. It was the first book about screenplays I read from start-to-finish that didn't make me feel like writing was a joyless grind. I've been trying to use it to improve my writing since then. It's been a slow process, but I feel like I'm making progress.
On July 25th Mr. Snyder accepted me as a friend on Facebook. I was prepping on ways to "get to know" him when I heard the news.
I've tried to find out more about Loglines, Beat Sheets, etc., and came across this site. I've peeked in a few times and just decided to join. Seems like there's a good group here genuinely interested in helping each other. Hope I can be of help. I know I'll need your help.

Hi everyone...
I've been waiting until now to post my thoughts on Blake's passing.
I met Black twice in NYC and we emailed many times. Like all of us know, he was a truly gifted man who has helped many of us find a way to express our voices in a form we all love.
He told me once writing "...is an extremely noble profession..." and that, no matter how upset I may be when my writing isn't received well or bought or optioned, to always remember why I'm doing this...I'm doing this to express myself and to make sense or my life and the lives of others.
Blake helped me find a way to express myself and did this through his love of the artform of storytelling and movies.
I agree...the best way to support him is to have groups around the world which continue his teachings. I have tried in the past to get an NYC group going, but I've gotten odd resistance, but I am still interested if others are.
Bless all of you for writing such nice things about him. I hope the pain of his death becomes bearable for his family and friends in the near future.
Michael B.

I just found out through the Final Draft newsletter, and I am completely and utterly devastated. I had to check and double-check to make sure that this is not some sort of a hoax. And I still can't believe it.
In the last three weeks I lost the dearest person in my life, then I lost a former colleague at work - and now I get this sad news. This really makes you re-evaluate your own life, doesn't it?
I never met Blake in person, but through his two eye-opening books, his software, his homepage and this forum he still was my teacher. And he had a rare ability most other teachers lack: he had a gift to encourage people.
So many teachers just love to tell you that you suck, that what you're doing is wrong anyway and that you won't accomplish anything if you're not working harder. Blake wasn't like that. A friendly word or a piece of advice is sometimes all that's needed to keep one going.
I don't participate that often in here - I guess I'm not that much of a people's person - but just by reading the posts and the friendly advice given in this forum, I've learned so much!
This community is Blake's legacy. And he truly did change the world!
Farewell, Blake Snyder, and THANK YOU for being there for us._________________ Old, alone - done for! - Captn. Hook |

I just saw the Final Draft tribute tonight too and couldn't believe the news.
Times like this I focus on those theories that mortal life and consciousness are mysterious "frequencies" and death is merely changing the frequency. Like changing channels on TV. If so, I'm sure Blake remains tuned in to us back on terra firma.
What better tribute to his work than for each of us to commit to writing more, better, tomorrow.

What Blake has created here is so much bigger than he could have expected.
He was a great man - simple and complex. What he has taught me will never leave me. The effect that his words have had is primal and will resonate with me the rest of my years.
Don't let his passing be the end of what he has created. Keep using Save the Cat. Keep posting new topics. Cat will always be useful and it will always be relevant. Story never changes and neither will Blake's impact on our lives.

I simply wanted to post my respect and love for this man's work. I discovered two years ago and it has proven its brilliance time and time again. I never had any email or personal contact with him, but as everyone knows, the man shined through his words.
Thank you Blake Snyder.

Hey friends!
I am new here and just discovered Blake Snyder. I bought and finished reading Save the Cat yesterday and was blown away by the honest and real world application he gave. I was just as saddened to hear of Blake's passing.
He has already motivated me more than I thought possible. I never knew him but finishing his book makes me feel like we are old friends.
Thank you Blake.
