As most of you know by now from reading the post on the main website, Blake Snyder died suddenly this morning, August 4, 2009, from cardiac arrest.
http://www.blakesnyder.com/2009/08/blake-snyder-1952-2009/
All I know at this time is that Blake had not been feeling well over the last few weeks and yesterday had apparently seen a cardio-pulmonary doctor, who had detected that Blake’s heart was inflamed. An inhaler was prescribed to treat the inflammation. This morning Blake felt severely ill and called 911. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
According to Blake’s business partner and close friend, a private funeral will be held and will be followed by a public memorial service at a later date. I will share details about the memorial service with you as soon as I have them.
I can count on my hands the times Blake and I met in person, but I consider him a good friend and a beautiful person. I know this is a forum about writing but this is a time that words alone won’t do.
Also, you should all know that Blake loved this forum and the community it has created. Blake was about loving each other and sharing our gifts. Blake’s gift was the joy of how to tell a story. His story is one I plan to share with as many people as I can.

I just recieved an email from Martin with the link on Blake's blog about the sad news..
For the past two weeks I've been performing a page one rewrite of a screenplay entitled REDEMPTION.. I decided to rewrite this script using Blake Snyder's Save the Cat method..
After two weeks of writing I finished around 10:.00 a.m. British Time in the morning having been up all night from the previous day when I finally got to write FADE OUT: THE END
I printed the script to hardcopy and bound it with brass brads and washers - job done...
4th of August is my birthday I have just turned 50 years of age. It was supposed to be a special occasion..
I had stuff to do.. Birthday cards to open, gifts and presents from family and friends and later a banquette dinner with the family and finish off with a bottle of Champagne..
I have a nap, wake up, check my email and discover Blake Snyder has passed away..
I have to say, after spending two weeks with a 110 page screenplay using Blake Snyders Save the Cat system which I was so close to for these past two weeks and finishing the script on the 4th of August, my birthday and discovering this very sad news at the end of this day has been deeply upsetting and I'm very sad at Blake's passing..
I never met the man but he emailed me a couple of times and was always very courteous and polite and always very interested in your writing and your projects..
What a terrible sad loss this is to the screenwriting community...
I'll dedicate the screenplay REDEMPTION to Blake..
I'm in tears here...
RIP Blake...
Kevan

I've changed this post to an announcement so it will stay at the top of the forum. In doing so I accidentally deleted Martin Blank's and Saenyc's first two posts. I am very sorry about that. I'm obviously a little out of it at the moment. Please forgive me.
Please post your thoughts, memories and anything else you care to share about Blake here.

John, zero worries, my friend.
I read Blake’s first book and only Blake would write a book about screenwriting that would be widely read AND put his private Email in the book. I Emailed him a few times and he always Emailed me back quickly with kind and generous answers.
Then a year or two later I went to NYC and took his workshop. And it was not just what he knew, which was/is life changing, it was his incredible positive energy. I’d never encountered anything like it. Blake was one of a kind. And Blake did change my life. I have a large board up in my office. Taped to my computer screen I have a quote from Blake I look at while I write. That is reaching people!
A friend of mine who lost her father when she was a teenager has a sign up in her house that says, “Cherish this day.”
It’s a point well taken. And it seems to me great sadness aside we should all take care to tell those in our lives what they mean to us while we still can. Love you cats.
Martin

I'm still in shock. I had e-mailed Blake only this morning asking him to give me a day on which we could take him to lunch while in NYC. He never answered, which is strange for Blake; now I know why.
I loved him so very much, as we all did. He was a gracious, gentle, and generous soul whose sun blazed too brightly for that of a mere mortal. Every word I write from this day forward will be dedicated to Blake. We've got to keep his legacy alive.
The Cat is dead; God save The Cat.
I hope Blake is buried wearing his beloved white sneakers.

I just can't believe it.
As you can see I just joined here on August 1st, I'm still a Kitten here.
But since joining just a few days ago, I have immersed myself in Blake's writing. I am reading every blog post of his, and all of the comments for each blog.
I was just discovering the fountain of teaching and positivity that is Blake Snyder.
I was just reading more of his teachings on this site, took my dog for a walk, and came back to this site to read more of his amazing insights and instructions. I go to the homepage, and I see the awful headline that I never would have possibly thought I was about to see.
I thought it was some sort of bad joke. Then I kept reading, and realized it was real. I seriously blacked out for a moment. The breath has been knocked out of me.
I sit here, in complete disbelief.
I was already planning to go to a workshop of his within the next year. I had never met him, but through his writings, I feel like I have. I am at a total loss right now.
I miss you so much already Blake.
When I too have set my pen down for the final time, and I see you on the other side, I will thank you in person for being the amazing inspiration and person that you are.
With love,
Matt

Kevan: Blake would want us to honor your day, and I know he wouldn't want to interfere with your happiness on this milestone birthday.
So all tears aside for the moment--Happy Birthday to you, Kevan.

First, happy Birthday Kevan.
I still remember the first time I talked to Blake, I so lost, and he helped me figure out what I needed. And he did in the nicest way possible.
He even bent over backwards to help get into one of his workshops. (was still unable to attend, something I kick myself daily for) And he would answer any ? I had, large or small.
I will miss him, It just goes to show "life is short and to never loose sight of the one you love".
On a happy note, You know he wherever he is now, he has them captivated with his wit, and humor.
Deb.

This is so sad. Was shocked to read this today. In fact, I felt a much deeper pang than when Michael Jackson died.
One of those wierd situations I suppose - never met or spoke to the guy but his writing in both his books and blog seemed to have a personality all of its own and on that basis alone I really liked him. His passion was clear, and his desire to get unpublished writers into the biz was obviously genuine.
He is missed already.
