I often wonder if I'm starring in a biography of my own life, and if I have just passed the "all is lost moment". Then I realise it's more likely the mid-point reversal and I'm in the "Bad guys close in" phase of life rather than "Dark night of the soul." Still, when I reach my finale epiphane I'll let you know - no doubt on stage at the Oscars.
My work day often goes this way, though:
Stasis = death: trudging to the train station AGAIN.
Theme stated: usually whatever the mad divorcee lady shouts privately at her friends a couple of seats away.
Setup: Kiss wife goodbye, arrive at work, say hi to all the day's players (my colleagues).
Inciting incident: Open emails and snail mails.
Debate: organise workload for the day, eat breakfast at desk, decide to just plough through it.
B-Story: whatever the gossip of the day brings - sick kids, annoying wives.
Fun and games: romping through work, sneaking off to the furthest printer to print out another script (my own or a pro), making calls, etc.
Mid-point: Lunch, and the realisation that things are better with a full stomach and a chocolate biscuit.
Bad guys close in: realise there are still five hours until I can officially leave. Work on, but quite tired thanks to full stomach. Eye begin to weigh heavy... need sleep.
All is lost: people from other areas of the business want to go home too, so they need stuff from me now, now, NOW!
Dark night of the soul: fending off queries, reoganising my day, it looks like I'll be here past 6PM at this rate.
Break into 3: afternoon cuppa focuses the brain.
Finale: All my new work is in a neat pile, and I power through it. Looks like I'll catch that 1730 train after all. Uh-oh, look at the time. Gotta dash (chase to the airport scene). Catch train with moments to spare. Oh good, mad divorcee woman's on this train too.
Closing image: having a nice tea with the wife, and a glass of wine, watching a movie or some good TV.
