Hi everyone!
I was introduced to STC by a friend quite a while ago, and had the privilege of attending Blake's Beat Sheet class in March '09 and Master Class in June.
I am a hospital-based physician by trade, and quite new to the whole idea of screenwriting. I considered Blake a lifeline to a new beginning, and now that he has passed, I feel kind of lost. You know, how can I do this by myself?, what do I do from here?, that sort of thing. Blake had introduced the idea of a third level class to my Master Class group. Boy, was I looking forward to that! It's a challenge to figure out where to go from here.
Anyway, I appreciate having this community for support. I hope to be able to contribute as well.
Kari

| Kari, everyone who makes it in this industry-- or even just in writing as a hobby-- does it through community. Blake was no exception. And even with his passing, the communities still exist. So don't worry about going it alone. No one has to do that.

Happy Welcome Kari!
I agree with Mike and would add that this forum is probably the best place to start; plenty of nice people here.
Bless you and your writing!

With John's help I finally made it past activation - thank you, John.
I am a single mother, 9-year I.T. professional currently working as a systems administrator for a major pharmaceutical company. I.T. has been so unstable as far as retaining jobs in the U.S. that I've been making some difficult life choices lately however this, I think, will be one of the easier ones.
I've been addicted to writing since I was very young. I've only had one poem published but I've generated a lot of work just for my own satisfaction including fan fiction and erotica. I am returning to what I love and I do so with my eyes wide open. I understand this isn't a forgiving career but I am either that passionate about it or I am subconsciously a masochist. Either way, I am now on the path I'd hoped to have been on years ago and I know what I am willing to do to make it work.
I am happy I found this site and I look forward to picking up Blake's books and contributing to the forums.
My condolences on Blake's passing.
Thank you for having me.
~Wendy~

| Welcome, Wendy. I love that someone is switching to screenwriting due to the instability of their profession.

Hi Guys,
I joined a couple of days ago. I must apologise as my first post was not an introduction but rather a question regarding registration for O/S writers.
I live in Melbourne, Australia. I have been reading everything about screenwriting I can get my hands on for the past 6 years or so. Books, articles, columns, magazines and podcasts. I have been writing outlines, partial screenplays, solitary scenes and have recently completed a first draft.
I love all aspects of screenplay writing and I am very excited about the prospect of actually doing this for a living. I am currently working in I.T. but the screenplay industry has spawned a passion in me that I never knew existed.
I read Blake's books a couple of years back and was fascinated by them. I was also aware of the STC Community but was reluctant to join things initially. I now regret that delay. I have spent the past couple of days looking at a lot of these posts and the encouragement I have found is truly outstanding. I wish I had have joined years back. I wish I had also had the opportunity to meet Blake. Everything in the industry (not just this site) tells me he was an amazing man.
I know I am going to enjoy being a part of this community.
Pierre.

Hi everyone,
I just joined a little while ago and I wanted to say "hi" and how glad I am to have found this site. Ever since I got the writing bug a few months ago, it is ALL I think about. It is distracting me from my actual job (photographer) and starting to cause problems (insomnia).
Here are some of my issues that I'm hoping some of you might have insight on.
1) crazy, manic, urgency
obviously screenwriting is a complex and intensive discipline that many people go to school for and devote their lives to perfecting. I feel like I am late in the game and I want to soak up as much information in as short a time as possible. It makes it hard for me to focus or know where to start. Do I write first just to get the ideas down and then learn the rules of the game later or vice versa?
2) can't get what's in my head on paper
I have a few pretty concrete story ideas in my head but I have not written in years, so I am having trouble getting so much as an outline done let alone actively writing a story or dialogue. This might be re-stating the "where do I start" question....but seriously, where do I start?
3) can't seem to bring myself to tell anyone
As of right now, this screen writing thing is my "dirty little secret." I have not told any friends or family (even my boyfriend of 7 years) yet it is all I think about. I think I am embarrassed about it. Wondering if any other beginners went through this.
thanks in advance, I feel better just having written this!
