STC goes to the Movies did a fine job of identifying the 5 monster types we typically see in a MITH film.

I'd like to learn these types with a little more depth with your help.

Here's my simplistic view as is:

Pure - Physical. Dangerous. -- Things to cage or kill for protection.
Eg; wolf, tiger, lion, shark, alien, dinosaur, snake. crocodile

Domestic - Person. Threat to the home/family.

Serial - Person(s) Threat to an ensemble.

Supra - Supernatural Threat often including Person possession.
Eg; Ghost, Alternate-Dimensional [Freddy/Ring]

Nihilist - Person(s) out to be judge your sins & execute.

This seem right? Can/do they ever crossover?
Anything you feel you want to add/correct?

Pure: Caging or killing is a good way of putting it because there is no way to co-exist with them. However, when it comes to animals, it's important to note that they're "supercharged." In at least one way, they're beyond average- size, speed, intelligence, appetite, etc. When a regular animal is the threat, it's usually a part of a Nature Problem or GF.

Serial: Other sub-cats are also about a group or town targeted so what sets Serial apart for Blake- on p14- is that the people share a bond or secret.

Supra: Blake says it clearly on p18.

Nihilist: Some of the cousins on p22 have monsters that are not human. It's more about the monsters' attitudes, what they seek or cause. This category is different because the sin is ignorance or relative. With the likes of The Conjuring, sometimes there is no sin. Or no one has pointed it out yet!

Will be drawing from points above as well as other users.

Question has already been answered but it's good to have this down for future reference.

Pure- Super-charged beasts. Driven by survival.
ALIEN, THE MIST, SPECIES

Domestic - Person who targets individuals, family units. Desires power.
FATAL ATTRACTION, ONE HOUR PHOTO, PHONE BOOTH

Serial
- Person who targets ensembles, Desires Carnage.
FRIDAY THE 13TH, HOSTEL, THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT

Supernatural - Inter-dimensional entity. Desires your soul.
THE EXORCIST, THE CONJURING, THE SHINING

Nihilist
- Obliviously Evil.
SAW, THE VILLAGE, CUBE

I don't see how these descriptions add depth and, not that I think it's your intention, but it doesn't help to place limits on the Monsters.

Not all Pure Monsters attack because of survival, most Domestic Monsters are not out for power, plenty of Serial Monsters are about more than carnage, and plenty of Supra Monsters don't care about one's soul. (About Supra, Blake writes that it is "made more serious by the fear of losing our souls," but that doesn't mean the Monster is aware of the souls or out to destroy them.)

Domestic is less about targeting an individual or family and more about the threat being close to home, as from a friend or lover. Blake emphasizes that these threats are "primal." He describes Serial in a more meaningful and accurate way than "targets ensembles." Etc.
