USA Today covers the subject today. What do you think?

It’s not the worst thing in the world that the Academy is at least trying things to try and improve the awards and the show.

Cheers,
Martin

I dont' think it has anything to do with whether or not the real competition comes down to 5 or 10, but rather the studios that want to be able to promote more films as being nominated.

The Academy Awards, let's face it, is really a marketing tool and aways has been.

"I have no regard for that kind of ceremony. I just don't think they know what they're doing. When you see who wins those things -- or who doesn't win them -- you can see how meaningless this Oscar thing is."
Woody Allen

The only times I watch is if Jack Nicholson is nominated. I just have to see what he's going to say... or do. Smile

I think it needs to be more entertaining, less political (like that will happen). Skits, more live music, etc. And they need to keep best pitcture to five noms.

Ha ha. Or they could just read the list of winners on prime-time news live in under five minutes as well as post who won on-line. Smile

Cheers,
Martin

Either one would be fine as long as they pick something. The Oscars are dying a miserable ratings death the way they do it currently.
