John, possible alternative:

If individual threads are available in the usergroup, then an author posts 5 - 10 pages in the thread, allowing readers to comment/reply to the individual thread over a two week period. Then there can actually be some back/forth between the author and the readers to address potential areas of confusion.

A different thread is started for each submission, keeping them all separated.

But whatever is decided, I'm cool with.

Thanks!

Yeah, that might work better. I'll have to see if individual threads can happen. Let me look at usergroups over the weekend when i can steal a few minutes and see what can and cant be done.

(Also, Just so you know, I'm swamped with work so I'm not planning on moderating this or posting much, just setting it up. I trust everyone will "play nice" and keep it professional and civil. Confused

I think we can do that, John. Very Happy

I like Thor's way of setting it up, or even just like the Loglines section is fine, too, if it can be done. I've been in a writer's group where the author was "locked out" until everyone had their say, and found it extremely frustrating, both for myself and for other writers. By the time a writer got a chance to address his own story nobody wanted to talk about it anymore. It felt like the writing had been done by committee, which really sucked all the enthusiasm out of it.

I like the idea of a two-week deadline, too. Usually all I want in a rough draft stage is a quick "yes or no, this is or isn't working."

OK... Better late than never!

After several failed attempts and much procrastination on my part Embarassed I've finally put together the Writers Group. If you scroll down you'll find it at the bottom of the forum.

It's a private group which means only the people in this original thread have access to it. You should have gotten an email from me but just in case I'm also posting it here.

If you are interested but weren't part of the original thread, then just post here and if there is enough interest I'm happy to start a second group.

I've created two sections: General Discussion and Submissions. If you end up needing more or decide you'd like to have a different configuration just let me know.

And, because it was her idea, I've volunteered Rachel T. the moderator (congratulations!) and she will be in charge of general day-to-day stuff.

Jaime Bengzon and I are also moderators. Jaime because he's already an overall moderator and me because I'm supposedly in charge of this place. Rolling Eyes

So have at it Cats!

BUT BE WARNED: At the first hint or suggestion that this is turning negative or anyone not being constructive with their critiques I will SHUT IT DOWN!

Yes, you should be honest, and say when something isn't working, but you have to do it in a constructive way that HELPS the writer improve. Life is too short and there are already enough jerks out there waiting to shoot down your work. Don't do it here. This is a place for you to be open and honest but also feel supported and safe.

Have fun and do good work!
