| Up at the top of the page - yup, right there, where it says "profile" and "FAQs" and things like that - it has a button labeled "Usergroups." I clicked it but it says there aren't any. What are Usergroups and can we start one?? Cuz I would really like to start/ be in a writing group with people here without having to go to another website to do it.

| Thanks, mama! Skype is a bit out of my reach right now (no internet at home). Wish I could, though.

Hey! Sorry I've been MIA lately--Been swamped with Grad school and just got back from vacation where internet was spotty at best--and just saw this question.
Usergroups are mainly a way of sorting and grouping people for convenience. From the phBB forum description:
| Quote: | | Usergroups are a way of grouping users. This makes it easier to set permissions to many people at the same time. phpBB 3.0 has six pre-defined groups: Administrators, Bots, Global Moderators, Guests, Registered Users, and Registered COPPA Users. |
(I didn't know robots like to post in forums. Cool. )
BUT... We did use one for the workshop people and I might be able to start one for a writer's group if there was enough interest and everyone promised to "play nice"... Not sure how that would work... Open to ideas and suggestions!_________________ "There's only one kind of woman...or man, for that matter. You either believe in yourself or you don't. -- James T. Hey John! Good to see you!
I think it would be great to have a writer's group in here where people could share more than loglines, perhaps posting pages or swapping scripts, like some us did offline for Script Frenzy.
And since it seems that Script Frenzy might be boarding their doors, perhaps it might be cool to try that in here. Just a thought.
All the best!!

Well, here is what I'm thinking:
One person submits 5-10 pages to the group via e-mail, then two weeks later, after everyone has had time to read the piece, they all post their notes in the user group on a specific night, in a specific order.
-Note must start wit specifics of what worked for reader. They have to find at least three good things to say before they can give specifics about confused them or didn't work.
No, saying "I liked it" or "This isn't my kind of story." Notes have to be specific and constructive.
Everyone will then be able to comment on each others notes and discuss them.
During this time the writer will be "locked out of the conversation" meaning they can't post anything.
To quote from a writing workshop guide:
| Quote: | It’s natural for writers to get defensive about their work or want to explain themselves, but this takes away from the quality of the feedback your members will provide.
When a writer’s work is being read outside of the workshop, they won’t be there to give explanations or excuses to their readers. The workshop is a way for them to be a fly on the wall, to see how their work is being read organically. |
Once everyone has posted their comments and discussed each others notes, the writer will be allowed to join in to ask and answer any questions that came up during the session.
Then someone submits their 5-10 pages, and two weeks later do it all over again.
At least that's a rough idea of it...

John, possible alternative:
If individual threads are available in the usergroup, then an author posts 5 - 10 pages in the thread, allowing readers to comment/reply to the individual thread over a two week period. Then there can actually be some back/forth between the author and the readers to address potential areas of confusion.
A different thread is started for each submission, keeping them all separated.
But whatever is decided, I'm cool with.
Thanks!
