I read a lot of the Hero's Journey in the past and recently I read the book by Vogler "A Writer's Journey"

As far as I know till now, there is no talk about Archetypes and when they appear in a story in the STC system. Or maybe there is and I didn't see it. It would be a nice way of completing the view on a story. Anyone has thougths about this?

André

I might not be understanding your question or concern, but here goes:

maybe try to think of all the books you read and seminars you attend and other manner of tools you use to learn the craft of screenwriting as atoms, particles of screencraft-matter that can be plugged together in many different ways to create the molecule of your individual screen-writer voice and/or style.

Snyder's STC may not delve specifically or in-depth into character archetypes, but what STC! does is give those archetypes (crafted thru special consideration to character using other standards of measure) several different avenues of story to explore in a simple and basic 15-point structure thru use of the BS2.

in another way, Blake's classifications of story-types could be considered his own archetypal milieu; what type of dude has which type of problem? what would comprise the perfect aspects of complimentary opposites for your twist on buddy love? golden fleece is a perfect place to drop an archetypal hero vs villain conflict, etc etc... answer those questions and create your own 'archetype' which can then be shaped and molded to fit Blake's story-model (BS2)... or not, in which case it goes toward building your own unique voice and style and archetype.

so many ways to attack the art and craft of screenwriting; focus on story structure, or character-building, or compelling visual imagery, or whatever it takes to tell the story you want to tell in exactly the way you want to tell it... if it sells, you WIN! if not, well maybe you have more to learn. Like any other art, screenwriting is subjective; you can do cookie-cutter archetypes all day long, or completely wing it and get lucky with a drunk reader, pass up the ranks of contest, win some acclaim and accolade and break thru that way.

seems like you're on a good track, reading various volumes on the subject of our art, our passion, screenwriting, and asking questions about damn near every aspect of the craft you discover. Can't go wrong figuring it all out by doing those 2 things, and adding a generous portion of experimentation at the keyboard or notebook or however you tackle the fun part of creating and capturing your vision on the page.

then again, I don't really know what I'm talking about most times myself.
I just like to tell a good story, and hope I tell it my way better faster stronger than some other schmo...

good luck
and write on!
